As you may have noticed, the encounter table website is now live. Technically, it went active a little while ago, but this is the first major update it’s had… and it’s an update I’m quite excited about.
Why? Well, yesterday I received a shipment of components – tiles and dice. I’m running my poor little 3d printer ragged cranking out sets of figures too, and (of course) I can print the rulebooks etc. and packaging as desired. With these on hand, I can now start putting together pre-production sets of Close Encounters.
This is a big step for me! Now, when people ask me if they can buy a copy, I’ll be able to say “yep”. The online store is still under construction – don’t worry, it’s near the top of the list – but I can already accept payments and ship out the goods.
If things go well, I’ll be able to think about a Kickstarter or something to scale up production. That’s a little bit down the track, though. In the meantime, let’s see what it looks like…

Here we see some of the test figures I did at the end of their first game on the new tiles. The rifle troopers cautiously poked their noses out, but then came back to provide cover fire. The pistol troopers and the sergeant, meanwhile, have bombshelled out to search through the tile deck as quickly as they can. This isn’t a bad deployment – they’ve already uncovered the objective tile, and there’s only three tiles left in the deck. But the bugs have found a spot to spawn near the rifle troopers, and things are about to get difficult.
Time for me to get back to work!
