Hi, I’m Tim. I’m the founder of Encounter Table Games – since it’s a one-person show, I also do all the work in it! I live in New Zealand at a Secure Undisclosed Location.
I’ve always made games to entertain my friends (if there’s a roleplaying campaign going on, I’m usually the one running it). Back in 2018, one of my friends casually mentioned that a game I made was the sort of thing people might buy… and I was stunned. It had honestly never occurred to me to try to sell a game I had created – I might enjoy games and be passionate about them, but I hadn’t thought I had the ability to create something special.
The more I thought about it, though, the more the idea grew on me. I knew the game I made was better than some products I had bought and played. Perhaps it really was worth seeing if people would buy it.
That started 18 months of development work. I tested rules and mechanics, experimented with pieces and components, and probably bored my friends senseless. It took about a year to close in on a plan for assembling and supplying the game… and then COVID-19 came along, and put everything back by six months.
On the bright side, that time was used to refine my game designs even further. After going as far as I can with testing and development, it’s now time to get feedback from a wider audience.
I’m particularly passionate about cooperative or semi-cooperative games. I like working with my friends to overcome challenges far removed from our everyday experiences. I hope you do too.
